Applemore kennels and cattery is situated on the edge of the New Forest, set in 3 acres of woodland. They have been established for approx. 50 years. We have recently taken over the kennels and are eager to carry on the exceptional high quality of care and understanding, the kennels are well known for.

Dogs at the kennels

We are just in the process of a new building programme which when finished in spring next year, will result in spacious modern kennel facilities for our boarders, but not spoiling any of the New Forest charm.

We can't wait !!

Leaving Your Pet
Boarding a pet for the first time can be a fraught experience for the owner however most settle down very quickly and whilst its owner is suffering pangs of remorse their pet is tucking in to a good meal and making friends with its neighbours. We like to think the 'old hands' that have been coming regularly to the kennels enjoy their vacation and we do our best to make it so. We do of course supply all our 'guests' with a bed and bedding but it is comforting for the dog or cat to have something from home, perhaps an old blanket or jumper.

Staff
Applemore has a terrific team of staff, some NVQ trained, who all play an individual role to maintain our high standard of care, whether it be cleaning, grooming, exercising or cuddles.

Everybody's aim is the same to make sure your pet is happy during their 'holiday' with us.

A Healthy Diet
At Applemore we consider the dietary needs of your pet influence greatly its well being whilst in our care, it is for this reason that we make every effort to offer the same brand of food that the animal has been used to at home, however on rare occasions and despite all our efforts some animals, dogs especially, will lose weight in the kennels. Although they appear to eat well they can, through constant activity burn off all the food they are given.
Certificate of Vaccination
All animals arriving at the kennels for boarding must have a current vaccination certificate, this is to protect your pet as well as others. Your vet will explain these vaccinations to you but generally it is an initial course of two injections followed by a yearly booster. Modern vaccines give immunity against diseases such as Parvovirus, Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis (DHL) in dogs, and against Flu and Enteritis, however in the case of dogs these vaccines do not protect against 'Infectious Bronchitis' this is not a new disease but a far more appropriate name for what is commonly known as 'kennel Cough'.
Effective Protection
The term 'Kennel Cough' is unfair and implies that the disease comes from Kennels, but dogs are just as likely to be infected at shows and training classes even over the forest for that matter. Dogs become infected by breathing in infected airborne particles in a manner similar to the way human colds or influenze are spread. At the moment the only effective way to protect against kennel cough caused by Bordetella Bronchiseptica, (the major cause of Infectious Bronchitis), is Intrac vaccination. Whilst we do advocate Intrac we do not make it a mandatory requirement for boarding at the Kennels, there are vaccines available which protect against some of the other causes of Kennel Cough. Please discuss this with your vet.
